The Society is the only organization in East Hawaii doing such work.
It is our goal to make available a broad
spectrum of music and dance. In this way we hope to reach out to the
various cultures which comprise our
diverse community. Typically we present up to eight concerts per season.
Working cooperatively with other
societies in the islands through the efforts of the Hawaii Association
of Music Societies [HAMS], we are
able to attract high quality performers. Most often our performers
are on state-wide tour. Leading pianists,
violinists, guitarists or other soloists, chamber groups, ballets,
vocal ensembles as well as unique ethnic
musicians bring their talents to our community providing an enriching
experience which lightens the heart and
frees the inner being.
A subsidiary but very important activity of HCS is providing the children
and young adults of East Hawaii with
direct experiences of classical music and close interactions with the
artists. To achieve this the Society arranges
for visiting artists to present master classes and to appear in local
schools (at all grade levels). Comments from
the youth who have participated, indicate these educational in-services
are highly valued as the students not only
get to experience the performances but also have opportunity to discuss
the fine music and dance which they
have seen.
We are greatful to the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts for
their financial support. We also owe a debt
of thanks to the corporate sponsors and individual members who make
it possible for us to keep ticket prices at
an affordable level.
